In the early part of the summer in 2006 and 2008 I had the fortune to work as a chuckwagon hand on the Bell Ranch in New Mexico for the annual round-up.  During this time, inbetween work, I sketched, painted, and took photographs of the landscape, the cowboys, and the animals.  My focus shifted from the landscape to the cowboys and then to the horses.  These works were done from photographs and drawings created on the Bell Ranch.  The paintings are all gouache on board or paper.
